Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born April 26, 1991 and professionally referred to under the other name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and was the first female to sign with J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Her first single was released with the label on October 21 2016 titled Pho where she gained fame. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It came out in May 2019. Ari Lennox started posting her music to the internet in 2012 when she released her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography In 2013. She continued to upload her tracks online through 2014 and released her own single Bound. On July 21st, the 21st of July in 2015 Omen was featured on Elephant Eyes the track"Sweat it Out.. J. Cole was interested in her talents and was keen to work in conjunction with Rihanna. Her announcement to be signed to Dreamville Records was made on the 8th day of December. Backseat was a track she co-wrote with Cozz on the album collaboratively titled Revenge of the Dreamers II. In the month of October she dropped her debut EP Pho. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening performance for J. Cole on his single Change in 2017 and also was a part of the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. In 2018, she was able to be a guest on two of her songs along with label-mates EarthGang and EarthGang on Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox dropped her first song Whipped Cream off of Shea Butter Baby on July 16th. The music video was followed by a video in September. On November 9 she released two more singles called 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. The 13th of November, she came out with two additional singles, The No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a song that she performed alongside Cole for Creed II's soundtrack on the 16th of November. It then came out as a standalone single in February of 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. In February 2019 the video music for this track debuted. The track has garnered more than 3 million YouTube views within a week. In December 2018, she performed as performing as a support act on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour with 6LACK.
